Airports with the most delays (last 12 months)
Useful when planning: these airports have the lowest on-time rates even on normal days.
What these delays mean
- What is a ground stop?
- The FAA holds flights bound for an airport at their departure airports, usually for severe weather, equipment problems or congestion. Flights already in the air continue. Ground stops are typically short (often under an hour) but cause knock-on delays for the rest of the day.
- What is a ground delay program?
- When an airport can accept fewer arrivals than scheduled (low clouds, wind, runway work), the FAA assigns departure times to flights headed there. The “average delay” is how long those flights are held before takeoff.
- My airport isn’t listed. Is my flight on time?
- This page shows airport-wide traffic programs only. Your flight can still be delayed by the airline (crew, maintenance, a late incoming aircraft). Check your airline’s app for your specific flight.
